Basketball

Basketball was created in December 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian physical education teacher at a school in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith was responsible for developing a new game to keep his students busy during winter while they were stuck indoors. He originally hung two peach baskets on each end of the gym and used a soccer ball for the game. The game originally had 13 rules and had nine players on each team. Basketball spread across schools and colleges quickly and during the early 1900s, professional leagues began to form.Basketball is played between two team, with each team having five players on a rectangular court with a hoop on each end. The object of the game is to score points by shooting the ball through your opponent’s hoop, which is 10 feet off the ground. A field goal (basket), would count as two points or three points if the player shots from outside the arc.
